This lesser known alternative to Pompeii is actually one of the most important archeological sites in the world, as it allows to take a peek into the everyday life of ancient Romans, as much of the area is beautifully preserved with remains of houses, shops and public baths that visitors can walk into.
This was one of the closest seaports to the city of Rome and it was gradually abandoned, unlike Pompeii.
